SAKARYA UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

We regard Philosophy as providing an invading perspective for an individual, questioning every environment of living and every way of life, and speaking out to ourselves and to the world. In this sense, the aim of Philosophy teaching is to question the value of Philosophy in life and to form a character who respects the rights and freedom of others, who runs after the wisdom, who is authentic, autonomous in mind and free in his thought and life. Such a conscience with its critical way of thinking and prejudice-free identity and character tries to understand and to explain its culture, history and their formation phases, and to develop and to change them in a positive way.

Sakarya University Department of Philosophy which was founded in 1999 in order to educate students who will make contribution to Turkish way of thinking  who are prejudice–free, who are able to make comment and who have the ability of independent thinking inaugurated undergraduate education in the academic year 2001-2002 and graduate education (Program of Philosophy, History of Philosophy Main Field at the Institute of Social Sciences) in the academic year 2002-2003.
